Vision & Mission

The vision of the international Master of Environmental Policy (iMEP) Program at Duke Kunshan University (DKU) is to create a new cadre of environmental leaders and incubate creative ideas for improving environmental quality in China, Asia, and the world.

Our mission is to provide world-class environmental policy education and to conduct cutting-edge research on China’s most serious environmental problems through high-quality research, teaching, and policy engagement. Specifically, we are committed to:

Improving our understanding of the interaction between human society and its environment through original multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary studies that draw upon economics, public policy, political science, law, and geography, as well as the natural sciences.
Educating the next generation of environmental leaders to work in government, civil society, and the private sector, through the international Master of Environmental Policy Program.
Providing policy solutions to national and international environmental problems through examining the formation, design, application, impacts, and evaluation of environmental policies.

Generating societal impacts by strategically focusing on four pressing environmental issue areas in China, Asia and the world: energy and climate change, water, ecosystem conservation, and environment and public health.
